Interior Details

The last few weeks have seen some big details go in. Fred and I designed racks for the walk-in closet.
Granite for the fireplaces and countertops went in. Choosing them was an experience. The only easy one was the black granite around the fireplaces. On the second floor I have a two-way see-through fireplace that goes between the master bedroom . . .

And the master bedroom's adjoining den. The bookshelves for the den were also hung. This fireplace is gas so I'm planning on losing the fake logs and replacing with some variety of stones. Black, grey or white?

This is the second largest bedroom in the house, on the first floor, with built-ins that were added during construction. I moved the closet over for these built-ins.

This is the granite I choose for all three bathrooms. In one of the bathrooms the cabinets were not wide enough to place the faucet above the drain leading to an unintended but interesting effect.

This is the other downstairs bathroom where one can sort of see the combined effect of the finishes: the brush silver lights, faucet, and sink, contrasting with the concrete floor and countertop. It's not the best picture because the mirror's reflection throws the scheme off.

The same black granite in the upstairs two-way fireplace was used around the living room fireplace. This fireplace will be both gas and wood-burning.

The kitchen is still a work in progress. I'm trying to match the stainless steel applicances with the same brushed aluminum faucets, sink, and backsplash. This granite countertop is different from that of the bathrooms, its grey, to match all the brushed aluminum in the room and concrete flooring.
